This is such a cool cover! There's so much texture and the saturation of color makes everything pop. I love the hands pulling up the red curtain and the way it not only crinkles up the curtain but the title as well...just really eye catching!

Isn't this a great cover to sort of wrap up the summer months? It has so many components I find eye-catching: an old, musty book, a beautifully decorated china cup and saucer, and a fuzzy yet bright and GORGEOUS landscape of what I can only guess is somewhere in Britain. It's just bright and full of promise!

Like last week's pick this week's cover is gorgeous for it's soft focus and colors. While I can't say that it tells me anything about the story within I do think it's stunningly arranged and definitely something I'd want to learn more about.

So, without further ado, my Cover Crush this week is.....

 

 

 

 

First off, I love the soft focus of this cover, with the dark border along the top drawing your eyes down. Given the barbed wire (perfectly framing the title, I might add) and airplanes in the top right hand corner you get the sense that this is a novel of war, with the clothes of the two women making me think it is probably set during WWII. I love when a cover can express for the potential reader what sort of story they might find within! This is definitely a cover I'd snatch up in a minute!

 

Let's see how close my assessment of the cover is to what the story is really about....

This is another case of a cover that is so intricately woven with imagery and beauty that I can't stop looking around for new things to see! The golden color against the black backdrop makes everything stand out and gives it a sense of richness and glamour. The design  makes such a lovely frame for the title and I just think who ever came up with this cover is an artist.

I find this cover to be both captivating and disturbing. The vividness of the red cloth around this young woman's eyes against the paleness of her skin immediately draws my eye to the fabric and, on top of it, the title. I also love the scratched up layer over the image...it makes me think of a long forgotten, or much handled, photo. It's simply striking!

The texture on this cover is delicious! I feel like I could reach out and move around the pieces. The colors are eye-catching and I love the little houses hiding within the swirls. Just a really cool cover all in all!

This is such a simple cover but I just can't stop looking at it. I think it's the eye staring out at me! I think the bright red definitely makes me think of blood, especially next to the huge words "vampire" under the eye, and I love that white is used for the wording so it really stands out. I think the uncluttered cover also gives the illusion of a history book. But there again is that eye that won't look away! I don't know, I just like it!

It's really hard to decide where to begin describing what I love about this cover, but I'll try! The colors are so lovely and bold that, even with all that is going on, everything feels very distinct and defined. I love the detailed, swirling vines, leaves, and curlicues around the outside, drawing the eye within it to that unwinding scroll, castle, and intriguing red profile in the center. We've even got the glass slipper and hourglass to complete the visual representation of the story within. It's just perfect!!

For the month of June I've decided to gear my Cover Crushes towards all things Summer. I just can't think of much else right now and each of the covers I'll share this month will make you long to dip your toes in the water as much as I do!

Can't you just feel the wind whipping through your hair?? This is such a pretty picture, with the lovely-dressed woman on her pink bike with her basket full of brightly-colored flowers! And that blue sky...not a cloud to taint the day. This looks like my ideal vacation spot and I very much wish I could just climb right in!

I've got some more gorgeous flowers for you! Look at the detail on the petals and how they flow down the branch. I love how the title of the book mirrors the flow of the flowers and seems to twist around the picture, making it almost part of the organic nature of the image. The colors are also so soft and inviting! This is the kind of cover I'd want to frame and put on my wall!

And we've got more flowers this week!! I promise I do enjoy covers with elements other than flowers, I just seem to be drawn to them lately. Anyways, this cover in particular...I really like how disjointed and hazy elements of the cover are as I'm sure they represent some sort of confusion or mystery within the story. I also like how the flowers seem to be cutting into this woman's profile. I have no idea what that could represent but I like it!

I seem to have something for flowers against black backdrops as this has quite a lot in common with last week's Cover Crush pick, with the exception of this one being more about the growth of flowers and less about their destruction. I love the way the flowers and greenery on this cover actually look to be alive and growing and how they weave within the title and author's name. The bright mix of colors is also pleasing against the dark background and it's all quite pretty.

The two central activities in my life - alongside writing - have been reading and gardening.

Penelope Lively has always been a keen gardener. This book is partly a memoir of her own life in gardens: the large garden at home in Cairo where she spent most of her childhood, her grandmother's garden in a sloping Somerset field, then two successive Oxfordshire gardens of her own, and the smaller urban garden in the North London home she lives in today.

There's something violently beautiful about this cover. That soft, pretty rose is just being smashed/shaken into destruction. You can almost see the vibrations of it! I mean, it almost looks like it's bleeding. With the off kilter placement of the title as well I'm thinking this story has got to be about something delicate being thrown into total disarray. It's even more vivid against that all black background and all together is quite a striking image.

 

What kind of destruction is happening within these pages? Hmm.....

Recently suspended for a so-called outburst, high school English teacher Anna Crawford is stewing over the injustice at home when she is shocked to see herself named on television as a suspect in a shooting at the school where she works. I absolutely love the texture of these feathers! They look so soft yet ribbed...I just want to reach out and rub them. The iridescent coloring is beautiful as well and I can hardly even imagine a bird with such beautiful plumage (other than maybe a peacock). Having the title sort of tucked amongst the feathers is also a great touch. Just a really cool cover.

I don't even know where I should start regarding what I love about this cover. And what's all the more amazing...it's quite simple! It's a massive swirl of creamy blues all melding together and flowing around the white stars. I just want to reach out and squish my hands right in the center! I like how the title seems to swirl within the background as well. Just really, really pretty!!

 

While this cover doesn't really give any hint about what the story is about I'm guessing the synopsis will.....

I love the feeling of movement in this cover, with the jacket and skirt whipping around in the wind. I also love the shadows - which make me think of danger and mystery - mixed with the brightness of the upcoming sun - which makes me think of safety and/or peace just on the horizon. All of the colors flow well together and I especially like how the letters seem to glow against the background. A really pleasing, beautiful cover!

Oh for the love of mermaids this is a gorgeous cover! I love the cyclical pattern of the two mermaids and how their hair seems to flow like waves in the water. There is such a swirling movement that makes me think of deep ocean and hidden magical secrets. Beautiful!!
